"For anyone who hasn’t been through a divorce, the whole process can be completely overwhelming. Mr. Crum takes the time to break down each step of your case and makes sure you know exactly what is happening and going to happen when you leave his office. That is great, but the real reason why I am giving him 5 stars is how he handles himself in court. He is amazing in how he communicates to the judge and handles witnesses. If I could give him more than 5 stars I definitely would!"

KRISTA BARNETT
"Colorado Legal Group has been an absolute pleasure to work with. With a complicated divorce process I was stuck in, they really made it simple for me. They were very thorough and precise on everything they did and said. Everything was explained excellently and I had 0 issues. They really have helped change my life and I wish I would have found them sooner. Joseph Cash are amazing and highly recommended. They were a bit pricey for an average person like me but trust me every single penny was worth it!"

MYRNA LANDEROS
"Each and every one of the people at Colorado Legal Group impressed me - not only with their knowledge of family law, but their passion, compassion, attention to detail, and follow-through. They rose to the challenge during one of my most challenging times. And I know they will always be there for me - because when you have children involved, it is always "something". I am confident they can help with my next issue: What is the best way to get a change in custody?"

ANITA FOSTER
A child-focused approach to custody cases that best suits the needs of the children and their parents.

The Ultimate Guide to Child Custody

Decision-making refers to which parent has the right to make major decisions in the lives of their children. Colorado courts like to see the parents share joint decision-making for their children, although this is not appropriate in all cases. Joint decision-making would mean that parents have to agree on major decisions as related to the children’s education, healthcare, and other major aspects of their lives. Joint decision-making arrangements require a collaborative effort between the parents. Decision-making is determined on a case by case basis, and in some situations, the court may award one parent sole decision-making for the children.

Decision-Making Ability

Parenting time, on the other hand, is where the children physically reside during the week/weekend, during summers and other major holidays. Parents can share equal parenting time or make alternate agreements.

If the children are with one parent for a majority of the time, that parent is typically referred to as the “primary custodian,” or “primary parent.” If the parents cannot agree on parenting time, a judge will examine a set of factors related to the best interests of the children and determine parenting time accordingly.
